The vst is much better than the vst3 and bugless. The team much know that the vst3 has issues if they read the forum

So there wouln't be any benefit of VST3 over VST per se? What's the point of VST3 then?

I've switched from the VST3 version to the VST2 version in Ardour 6.9 Avlinux. It's much better than the VST3 and the presets are now available, so Kudos to the dev team for fixing some stuff.

There are still issues though. For example, importing preset settings from a Local File does nothing. Perhaps the VST plugin is looking for a specific application to do file import - on my system it doesn't function.

Steinberg is deprecating the use of VST2 (https://www.gearnews.com/steinberg-discontinues-support-for-vst2-plug-ins/) and Ardour recommends users to be using VST3. It's not clear to me why the focus has been on a dead end plugin format while still publishing a broken VST3 version of the plugin.

    edit with more info...
Continuing to see random crashes in both the VST2 plugin and the standalone application for ToneLib-GFX. It's not nearly as frequent as the original problem but it's definitely not going away.

Within Ardour, there are many features that simply don't work (preset input from file, online login for presets - neither function properly.) Random crashes that affect Ardour continue, they SEEM to be related to pushing buttons on the VST2 interface while waiting for another button press to complete.

I've also had the standalone application crash too. Not often but the crash is just as sudden as within Ardour.

The devs should consider adding a debug log or something else that we can use to help them find the problem.

Ah, the joys of chasing down crashes! At least you've got some solid workarounds while the bug gets sorted. Maybe Ardour needs its own "dedicated server" just to handle these IR plugins! If only debugging was as smooth as setting up hosting with HostNoc. Good luck till they patch it!
